Lithuania will allocate another 20 million euros to help Ukraine

On Wednesday, the Lithuanian government approved the allocation of 20 million euros from funds borrowed on behalf of the state for participation in EU initiatives and international initiatives to help Ukraine and Moldova.
“European Truth” writes about this, the Delfi portal reports.

According to the Ministry of Finance of Lithuania, 10 million of these funds will be directed to the contribution to the Special Program of Anti-Crisis Measures of the International Development Association of the World Bank Group for the Reconstruction of Ukraine and Moldova, another 10 million euros will be contributed to the “EU for Ukraine” fund, which is being created by the European Investment bank

According to Finance Minister Gintare Skajste, Lithuania and other countries have previously provided Ukraine with both financial and humanitarian aid, but this support must be continued so that the country can resist Russian aggression.

“The international community continues to resolutely mobilize financial support for Ukraine, which is defending itself. Lithuania has repeatedly contributed to similar international initiatives in support of Ukraine through the effectively functioning instruments of the European Union and international financial institutions and is among the leading countries in providing assistance to Ukraine.” – said Skyste.

The humanitarian, financial and military aid allocated by Lithuania so far amounts to 1.4% of the country’s GDP.

“We, the Western partners, have a joint responsibility to ensure that Ukraine survives not only in terms of military, but also in terms of financial and macroeconomic stability,” added Skaiste.

It is noted that a draft resolution was also approved, which authorizes the Minister of Finance to sign an agreement between the European Commission and Lithuania on contributions to help cover interest costs on loans granted by the EU to Ukraine.

The Ministry reminds that so far Lithuania has allocated more than EUR 950 million in humanitarian, financial and military aid to Ukraine, which is 1.42% of the gross domestic product from 2022.

Formerly Lithuania announced its intention to send humanitarian aid to Ukraine due to the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP in the Kherson region.
