The prosecution asked for 10 years for Maksym Kats in the case of “fakes”

The state prosecution has requested 10 years of prison under the general regime for oppositionist Maksym Kats, who is being tried in absentia in the Basmanny Court of Moscow on charges of spreading so-called fakes about the army. This is reported by “Mediazona”.

The sentence will be pronounced on August 24.

The criminal case is related to the video published by Kats on April 3 last year about the killing of civilians in the Ukrainian city of Bucha. In the video – one of the first about the events in Buche, where hundreds of residents died during the Russian occupation – the responsibility for the murders is placed on the Russian servicemen. Katz, who is abroad, did not deny that he had published this video, but he did not recognize Ainu. His lawyer quoted excerpts from the reports of international commissions on the actions of Russian soldiers in Buche. In addition, the Ministry of Defense of Russia published its version of events after Katz published the video.

Maksym Kats, the owner of a popular YouTube channel, was previously arrested in absentia by a Russian court. He lives abroad.

10 years of imprisonment is the harshest possible punishment for the article about “fakes” about the army. So far, no one has been sentenced to such a term, the maximum sentence was 9 years. Sentences were handed down, including in absentia, to Alexander Nevzorov, Ilya Krasilshchik, and Dmitry Glukhovsky. As a rule, the verdicts were handed down precisely in connection with statements about the murders in Buche or Mariupol.
