“We are paralyzing Armenia.” The opposition announced actions of disobedience

In Yerevan, protesters announced a general action of disobedience. Its beginning is scheduled for 8 o’clock in the morning on September 25.

“We are paralyzing the city. All of Armenia will be paralyzed in the next three days. Only the police are the support of power,” said Vazgen Manukyan, a member of the National Committee, during the rally, which is being held for the sixth day in a row on Respublika Square in Yerevan. At the same time, he did not call on the protesters to take any action other than going out into the street.

“It is necessary to go to the streets, to raise the level of disobedience to such a degree that the government will fall to its knees,” said Ishkhan Sagatelyan, a deputy of the opposition faction “Ayastan”.

On Sunday, representatives of the Armenian opposition held another rally on Republic Square in Yerevan, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in connection with his policy regarding Nagorno-Karabakh.

Last week, as a result of Azerbaijan’s lightning-fast military operation, the Armenian authorities of the self-proclaimed republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, which existed for more than 30 years, actually capitulated to Baku. Negotiations are now underway on the terms of reintegration of the Armenian community of Nagorno-Karabakh in Azerbaijan. It is expected that the entire territory of the region will come under the control of the Azerbaijani authorities.

The current authorities of Armenia indirectly blamed the incident on the Russian peacekeeping contingent, which, in their opinion, did not intervene in the incident.

The Armenian opposition accuses Nikol Pashinyan of betraying national interests and not providing assistance to the Armenians of Karabakh, at the same time declaring the danger of ethical purges in the region. At the same time, criticism of Moscow is heard at the protest actions.

Clashes with the police occurred during the rallies. The authorities detained several hundred protesters, 49 of them became suspects in criminal cases.
