The Iranian authorities have declared their readiness to intervene in Israel’s war with Hamas if the shelling of the Gaza Strip does not stop. According to The Jerusalem Post, Tehran’s private warning was sent to Israel through the mediation of the UN. The Israeli command suspects that Iran’s intervention will result in the opening of a “second front” of the war by the forces of the radical group “Hezbollah” in the south of Lebanon and Syria.
On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollakhian held a meeting in Beirut with the UN coordinator for peace settlement in the Middle East Tor Vennesland. After that, he met with one of the leaders of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh. He called the attacks by Hamas “a historic victory in the recovery of Palestinian lands” and promised to continue cooperation with the group.
“If the war crimes and genocide of Israel are not immediately stopped, the situation may get out of control and lead to far-reaching consequences, the responsibility for which will fall on the UN and its Security Council,” – wrote the representative of Iran at the UN on social networks Kh.
Israel’s representative at the UN, Gilad Erdan, condemned Vennesland for meeting with Amirabdollahian and for not condemning Iran’s actions in supporting Islamic radicals. “After you shake his hand, don’t forget to wash off the blood of the Israeli babies,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Israel continues preparations for a large-scale ground operation to destroy Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip. Civilians of the sector are recommended to evacuate to the south, closer to the border with Egypt. Tens of thousands of people have already left their homes. On the Egyptian side, there are convoys of trucks with humanitarian aid at the border with the Gaza Strip, but Egypt has not yet opened its only crossing point.
The US sent a second aircraft carrier group to the shores of Israel.
