A resident of Kirov received a 1.5-year suspended sentence on the article about fakes

The Kirov Regional Court sentenced a local resident, Vladimir Ashikhmin, to one and a half years of conditional imprisonment under the articles of spreading false information about the Russian army and the rehabilitation of Nazism. The convict himself told OVD-Info about this. In addition, for two years he is forbidden to change his place of residence and to administer websites on the Internet.
The reason was Ashikhmin’s anti-war statements on the VKontakte social network. He talked about the deaths of Ukrainian civilians during the Russian invasion and the events in Buch.
Ashikhmin also published pictures of medals with the inscriptions “For torture”, “For looting”, “For the revival of fascism”. The court noted that the medals are outwardly similar to Soviet awards of the Great Patriotic War, and considered it a rehabilitation of Nazism.
Ashikhmin admitted his guilt.
- Articles about so-called fakes and the discrediting of the army appeared in the codes of Russia shortly after its invasion of Ukraine. Russian courts recognize as discrediting the message about the war in Ukraine, which Moscow calls a “special operation”, and any information different from the version of the Ministry of Defense of Russia is fake.
