In Novgorod, officials were obliged to give 10% of their salaries to military families

In the Novgorod region, officials were obliged to donate 10% of their earnings to the families of the participants in the war in Ukraine; if they refused, they were threatened with dismissal. This was reported by “7×7” and blogger Vadym Beryashvili.

Officials of the government and administrations in municipalities received a request to give 10% of their salary to the “Christmas Gift” charity marathon. They had to sign forms agreeing to transfer part of their salary to the Save Life fund.

According to the blogger, many employees of the ministries and departments of the regional government are ready to share, but they are insulted by “how everything is arranged.” “Instead of a polite request – a rude threat of dismissal for refusal,” Beryashvili wrote. He also noted that it is not critical to give high-ranking officials 10% of their salary, but “many employees in low positions with meager salaries grumble.”

The “Christmas Gift” charity marathon has been operating in the Novgorod region since 1993, and its recipients were mainly orphans, disabled and low-income people. In 2022, the money collected at the marathon was handed over to military families for the first time.

As noted by The Moscow Times, officials in many regions of Russia demanded that representatives of various professions transfer money to the families of war participants: employees of tax inspectorates in Yekaterinburg, employees of the Irkutsk National Research Technical University, police officers in the Moscow region, officials and businessmen of the Novosibirsk and Orenburg regions.
