The number of military personnel of the Russian army will increase by almost 170 thousand people. The corresponding decree was signed by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. The document is published on the website of the Kremlin and enters into force from the day of its signature, TASS notes.
According to the decree, the staff strength of the armed forces is set at 2,209,130 people, including 1,320,000 military personnel. In the previous decree on the size of the army, which was declared invalid by the new document, this figure was 2,039,758 people, including 1,150,628 military personnel. The repealed decree took effect on January 1, 2023.
The Ministry of Defense of Russia stated that due to the increase in the maximum number of the Armed Forces, mobilization in the country is not planned, as well as a significant increase in conscription. “, the Ministry of Defense asserts.
- The so-called partial mobilization in Russia was carried out in the fall of 2022 against the background of a critical shortage of servicemen in the army of the invasion of Ukraine. It was claimed that about 300 thousand people were sent to the army.
- Families regularly complain about the lack of uniforms, food and training for the mobilized. They are suffering high losses, as evidenced by the publications of investigative journalists keeping a count of those killed in the war with Ukraine. Against this background, a number of mass media reported that the Russian authorities are ready to carry out the second wave of mobilization. Officially, this is denied. The authorities also denied plans for the first mobilization.
