In Anzhero-Sudzhensk, a 41-year-old local resident was detained on suspicion of arson at the military enlistment office. A criminal case of intentional damage to property has been opened against her, the press service of the Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Kemerovo Region reported.

According to the investigation, the suspect came to the military enlistment office with a container of flammable liquid and threw it out the window. No victims and no damage were recorded, the report notes.

According to the detainee, she decided to set the fire after she received a call via messenger from unknown persons who introduced themselves as bank employees and convinced the woman that she had a loan, and the fraudsters kept the documents in the military commissariat.

“She was also convinced of the need to take out another loan and transfer the money to a certain account, which she did,” the investigative authorities reported.

  • In the summer of 2023, it became known about ten cases when residents of different regions of Russia tried to set fire to military commissariat buildings at the request of telephone fraudsters. In some cases, they presented themselves as employees of the Russian special services and threatened people with prison terms if they did not comply with their demands. Suspects of arson believed this and set fire to the buildings of military enlistment centers.
