Almost 30 regions of Russia have allowed remote voting in presidential elections

In the 27 Russian regions annexed to Crimea and Sevastopol, it will be possible to vote remotely in the presidential elections of Russia. This is reported by the CEC of Russia.
The system of remote electronic voting (DEG) will be used mainly in those regions that have already used it before. It will be possible to vote remotely even at the polling station – not at the place of registration.
Experts criticize the remote voting system in Russia for its lack of transparency. In polling stations with remote voting, the results often differ from the actual turnout in favor of candidates supported by the authorities.
Voting from abroad through the DEG is not officially provided for. According to Oleg Kachanov, the deputy head of the Ministry of Statistics, in Russia, cyberattacks are fought by blocking foreign IP addresses, so remote voting from abroad will most likely not be available. During the September elections, it was available via a VPN with a Russian IP address.
- Voting in the presidential elections of Russia should take place from March 15 to 17, 2024. According to the CEC, 16 applicants for the post have already submitted applications for their nomination.
