The CEC postponed the meeting on the registration of Duntsova’s initiative group

The Central Election Commission postponed the meeting on the registration of the initiative group, which supported the nomination of journalist Ekaterina Duntsova as a candidate for the Russian presidential election. Duntsova reported this in her Telegram channel.

“Yesterday, I received an official invitation for December 22 at 3:00 p.m., but already today on the website of the election commission, the question is on the agenda for December 23 at 12:00 p.m. In case of refusal, we will not have time to hold a second meeting,” wrote Duntsova.

She also noted that in the agenda on the CEC website, the consideration of the issue of registration of her initiative group is called “on consideration of the petition”, and of Vladimir Putin’s initiative group – “on registration of the group of voters”.

• Ekaterina Duntsova is a journalist from Rzhev and a former member of the Rzhev City Duma. She announced her intention to run for president in November. Duntsova advocates the end of the war in Ukraine and against political repression in Russia.
• On December 20, Ekaterina Duntsova submitted documents to the CEC for registration of her initiative group. The commission must consider the documents within five days. If the CEC registers her initiative, she will be able to start campaigning and collect signatures to run in the elections. After registering the initiative group, it will need to collect 300,000 signatures in order for its candidacy to be included in the ballots.
• The elections of the head of state will be held in Russia on March 15-17, 2024. As expected, the current President Vladimir Putin put forward his candidacy for them. If he is elected, he will stand for the fifth presidential term.
