The Supreme Court of Russia rejected two claims of Alexei Navalny

Alexei Navalny’s associates reported on social networks that the Supreme Court of Russia on Thursday rejected two claims of the opposition politician, which are related to the conditions of detention in the correctional colony.

In the first lawsuit, Navalny challenged the rules that allow only 15 minutes for a meal in the colony, “because of which you have to suffocate with boiling water.” The second claim concerned the right to have more than two religious books in a cell-type facility and one in a penal institution.

Judge of the Supreme Court Oleg Nefyodov rejected both claims, according to a message on the Telegram channel “Team Navalny”.

In part of the lawsuit regarding meal time, Navalny gave the example of dry noodles “Doshirak”, which must be boiled first, and then eaten in time. “The boiling water, which is brought in large mugs, simply does not have time to cool down. It is also a problem to wash, clean, and cut vegetables with a spoon,” Navalny’s Team writes.

On January 9, it became known from Alexei Navalny’s social networks that he was again sent to the SHIZO – for seven days. This happened after the oppositionist was released from mandatory quarantine, which he served after being sent to a colony in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. As noted in the politician’s post, the reason was that he “refused to present himself in the form, does not respond to educational work, does not make the necessary conclusions for himself.”

  • Before being transferred to the “Polar Wolf” colony in December, Aleksey Navalny was in IK-6 in the village of Melehovo in the Vladimir region. By that time, he had been sent to the SHIZO 23 times. The reasons were, for example, an unbuttoned button and refusal to wash the fence. The conditions of detention in SHIZO differ in particular severity. Prisoners cannot receive parcels of their own free will, go for walks, they are not provided with bed linen.
  • In August, Alexei Navalny was sentenced to 19 years in prison under a special regime on charges of extremist activity. Navalny considers himself innocent, and the sentence is politically motivated. Human rights organizations recognized the oppositionist as a political prisoner.
