Apple Corporation paid an antimonopoly fine in the amount of more than one billion rubles. This was reported by the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia.
The reason for the fine was that Apple prohibited application developers from informing customers about the possibility of paying for purchases outside the App Store and imposed on Russian developers the need to use the company’s payment tools in their applications, the Russian agency claims.
In addition, as indicated in the FAS, Apple demanded that developers remove links to their Internet resources and change the functionality of the application in such a way that the registration form does not lead to external sites.
The Federal Antimonopoly Service considered the company’s actions an abuse of its dominant position on the application market.
Apple was fined an hour ago. The fine was paid on January 19, 2024. It is not specified how the company did this.
In October of last year, Apple allowed Russian developers to build in their applications for iOS and iPadOS the ability to pay with third-party payment systems. The decision was made in connection with the court decision. The ability to insert external links appeared only for developers from Russia.
