Boris Nadezhdin filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court challenging the refusal to register for the Russian presidential election.
In the lawsuit, the politician asks the court to cancel the decision of the Central Election Commission to refuse registration and oblige the commission to register him in the presidential elections. The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for February 21, Nadezhdin’s press service reported.
On February 15, the Supreme Court rejected two lawsuits filed by the politician against the CEC. One of them related to contesting the form of the list of collectors, the second – contesting the form of the list.
In the first lawsuit, Nadezhdin defended the right of a signature collector certified by a notary in one region to collect signatures of voters registered in other regions. The CEC of Russia rejected, according to Nadezhdin, “a huge number of signatures” precisely because of the mismatch between the region of the collector and the region of the collection of signatures.
The second claim of Nadezhdin concerned the form of the report of verification of signed letters, which lacks the conclusion of a handwriting expert.
- Nadezhdin was the only candidate for the post of president of Russia who took an anti-war position and opposed the policies of the current president, Vladimir Putin. On February 8, the CEC denied Nadezhda registration, finding more than 15% defects in her signatures compared to the permissible 5%.
- For many years, electoral experts have criticized the collection of signatures as a basis for admission to elections because of the possibility of removing a candidate for formal reasons.
