In annexed Crimea, a court controlled by the Russian authorities sentenced a resident of Dzhankoy, Yevgeny Shved, to two and a half years in prison and found him guilty of rehabilitating Nazism.
The materials of the criminal case state that the Swede, “adhering to the ideology of Nazism”, published a “message expressing disrespect for the Victory Day celebration” and “insulting the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland” on social networks. In addition, the accused posted “knowingly false information about the activities of the USSR during the Second World War.”
The publication “Mediazon” reports that the reason for the prosecution of the Swede was his post on the Telegram channel, published on May 9 last year. In it, the Crimean called the celebration of the Victory Day “victorious”, and also wrote that the Great Patriotic War was unleashed not only by Hitler, but also by Stalin. A month later, a resident of Dzhankoy was arrested.
It is noted that Shved’s case was considered separately in the court, since in the end he pleaded guilty.
