Ex-rector of “Shaninka” Sergey Zuev was sentenced to 4 years of probation

The Nikulinsky Court of Moscow sentenced the former rector of the Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences (“Shaninka”) Sergei Zuev to 4 years of conditional imprisonment in a criminal case of fraud.

In the same case, the ex-deputy minister of education of Russia and the former vice-president of Sberbank Marina Rakova received 5 years in prison under the general regime. In addition, the court fined Rakova 900,000 rubles and banned her from holding positions in the public service for two and a half years.

Zueva, who also held the position of director of the Russian Academy of Sciences, was banned by the court from holding positions in the civil service for two years.

Ivan Fedotov, ex-vice chancellor of the Russian Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and Krystyna Kryuchkova, former executive director of Shaninka, were both sentenced to three years of probation with fines and a ban on holding positions in the public service.

The former top managers of Sberbank and the Fund for New Forms of Education Development Yevgeny Zak and Maksym Inkin were sentenced to four and a half and three and a half years of probation with additional penalties.

The defendants were found guilty of grand larceny. In the criminal case, in particular, we are talking about the protection of 21 million rubles during the execution of two state contracts within the framework of the state program “Education”, concluded by the Ministry of Education and the Fund for New Forms of Education Development, which involved “Shanynka” as a subcontractor for the execution of the agreement, notes “Interfax”. .

Another episode is related to the embezzlement of 20 million rubles due to the fictitious, according to the investigation, employment of 12 employees of the Ministry of Education at the Institute of Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Convicts have partially or fully admitted their guilt.

• Marina Rakova was detained in October 2021. In August 2022, Rakova’s defense reported that she filed a guilty plea and expressed her willingness to compensate for the damage. Two months later, the court replaced her arrest with a ban on certain actions.
