The court upheld the sentence of Yegor Balazeykin, a schoolboy from St. Petersburg, who was sentenced to six years in an educational colony on charges of attempting to set fire to a military enlistment office. This was reported in Balazeykin’s support group.
The schoolboy’s lawyer stated that the court of first instance violated the principle of equality of the parties, the verdict did not include the point of view of the defense, and violations were committed during the inspection of the scene of the accident. Balazeykin’s parents reported that there is no evidence in the case confirming their son’s guilt in attempting to commit a terrorist act. He himself refused to participate in the debate and supported the statements of the defense. In the last word, the schoolboy said that because of the terrorist attack in “Crocus City Hall” he is in the same status as the person accused of attacking the concert hall.
The prosecution demanded that all appeals be dismissed and the sentence be confirmed.
During the meeting, it became known that Balazeykin received disability because he suffers from an autoimmune disease. Earlier, the medical commission refused to establish his disability.
17-year-old Egor Balazeykin was detained at the end of February 2023 in the city of Kirovsk, Leningrad region, on charges of attempting to set fire to the military enlistment office. Initially, he was charged with hooliganism, but then the charge was reclassified as a terrorist act. Later, a second criminal case was opened against the schoolboy – also about the attempted arson of the military enlistment office, but already in St. Petersburg.
Balazeykin admitted his guilt during interrogations. He stated that he threw bottles with flammable liquid into the building, but did not want to kill anyone. During the court hearings, it became clear that the schoolboy did not cause material or physical damage by his actions.
In November 2023, Balazeykin was sentenced to six years in an educational colony.
