On January 12, the court in Izhevsk extended the arrest of a 33-year-old local resident, who is also accused of participating in a terrorist organization and attempting to commit a terrorist attack. According to the investigation, he planned to blow up the chief designer of one of the factories for the production of unmanned aerial vehicles.
In 2023, at least 148 criminal cases were initiated in Russia under articles of treason, espionage and cooperation with foreign states or organizations, Sibir.Realii found out.
Most often, people are prosecuted for “collection or transmission of military data.” In 20 percent of cases, the FSB does not disclose details of cases at all.
In 2023, the courts handed down at least 50 convictions in such cases – this is almost three times more than the pre-war figures of 2021.
