A rare item was auctioned – a check for $175 signed by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who did not like signing signatures. The auction house expected the lot to fetch $25,000, which is almost 143 times the original value of the check. But the bids exceeded this estimate and the lot was sold for $106,985. The check from 1976 was preserved in good condition. At the same time, Apple was founded. The check for $175 was made out to Crampton, Remke and Miller, a now defunct consulting firm whose clients included Atari, Xerox and other technology companies.

It shows the company’s first official address — Apple 770 Welch Rd., Ste. 154, Palo Alto. This was the location of the answering service that the company’s management used while working in the garage of the Jobs family.
