A court in Italy overturned the decision to extradite Artem Uss to the United States

The Court of Cassation of Italy overturned the decision to extradite the son of the former governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Artem Uss, who escaped from house arrest in Milan in the spring of this year. ANSA writes about it.
The decision on the measure of suppression and extradition in the USA was canceled because Uss is no longer in the country. At the same time, according to the Italian mass media, the investigation into the fact of the escape is ongoing.
In the USA, the businessman is suspected of supplying electronics and Venezuelan oil to circumvent the sanctions regime, money laundering and bank fraud. USS allegedly resold hundreds of millions of barrels of oil from Venezuela under US sanctions to Russian and Chinese buyers.
At the same time, in Russia itself, a criminal case was initiated against Uss, Jr., under the article of a person involved in large-scale money laundering by an organized group. The Municipal Court of Moscow issued a sanction for his arrest in absentia. This happened after Uss was detained in Italy. The businessman’s lawyer, Vladimir Zherebenkov, directly said that this case “is designed to get Ussa out of Italy.”
- In March, after the court in Milan approved the extradition of Uss to the USA, the businessman escaped from house arrest. Soon it became known that he is in Russia.
- The Italian prosecutor’s office believes that Uss left home on March 22 and left for Slovenia via the city of Trieste, changed several cars and used false documents. From there he arrived in Serbia, from where he already flew to Russia. According to the authorities, Russian special services were responsible for organizing the escape.
- Alexander Uss, who at that time was the governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, thanked the President of Russia Vladimir Putin for his help in returning his son, without specifying how he managed to get out of Italy and get to Russia. At the end of April, he resigned from the post of governor.
