A court in Moscow arrested the Ukrainian singer Jamala in absentia for the article about the so-called fakes about the Russian army. This is reported by TASS with reference to the prosecutor’s office. Earlier, the singer was declared an international wanted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
The prosecutor’s office clarified that Jamala is accused of “publicly disseminating knowingly false information containing data on the use of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, motivated by national hatred.” It is not specified what information Jamala disseminated and when.
- Jamala (real name Susana Jamaladinova) is a singer and actress of Crimean Tatar origin, People’s Artist of Ukraine. She graduated from the National Music Academy of Ukraine. In 2016, Jamala, representing Ukraine, won the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm with the song “1944” about Stalin’s deportation of the Crimean Tatars. In 2023, Jamala recorded the album “Crimea”, in which she collected old songs of her people.
- The singer has repeatedly spoken out against Russia’s annexation of Crimea and Russia’s armed aggression in Ukraine. In April 2022, she was included by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia in the list of Ukrainian artists whose entry to Russia is prohibited for 50 years.
