A major fire broke out in the cargo terminal of Novorossiysk on the morning of August 18. According to mass media, the fire covered more than a thousand square meters, and no casualties have been reported.
According to the main office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Krasnodar Territory, wooden pallets caught fire. A video of the fire is published on social networks. The Kub Mash Telegram channel reports with reference to eyewitnesses that not only pallets are burning, but also barrels with oil. At the same time, black smoke is visible even from the village of Kabardynka, located at the other end of the bay, and local residents talk about the sounds of explosions.
Emergency services and operational headquarters of the Krasnodar Territory do not comment on the cause of the fire on the territory of the cargo terminal.
On the night of August 4, the Ministry of Defense of Russia announced that it repelled an attack by two unmanned boats on the port of Novorossiysk. One of the surface drones damaged the large amphibious assault ship “Olenegorsky Miner” standing in the port. The Security Service of Ukraine later confirmed its involvement in the attack.
Last November, a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle struck the Sheskharis oil terminal in the port of Novorossiysk.
The port of Novorossiysk is the largest in Russia on the Black Sea. Ships and submarines are based at the naval base in the city, and oil is exported from Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan through the oil filling terminal.
