A memorial to the dead residents of the city was opened in Buche

In the city of Bucha, Kyiv region, Ukraine, a memorial to local residents who died during the Russian occupation was opened in front of the entrance to the city park. In appearance, the memorial resembles a columbarium, on which the names of 501 people are engraved.

“We remember everyone by name… This cannot be forgotten and cannot be forgiven. That’s why we continue to remind the world about the military tribunal,” said the mayor of Bucha, Anatoly Fedoruk.

At the beginning of April last year, after the Russian army left the Kyiv region, which had been previously occupied and held for a month, and the Ukrainian army entered there, the bodies of hundreds of civilians were found in the city of Bucha. According to the testimonies of residents of Bucha, Russian soldiers shot, raped and interrogated the local population. Later, the Ukrainian authorities officially accused the Russian side of numerous war crimes.

The Ministry of Defense of Russia has denied all charges. The department’s statement said that the photos and video footage from Bucha are a provocation and “a staging of the Kyiv regime for the Western mass media,” and most of the corpses appeared after the Ukrainian military entered the city.

The analysis of satellite images refuted the reports of the Russian department. According to the investigators, the materials obtained indicate that the bodies of the dead appeared on the streets of Bucha at a time when the city was under the full control of Russian military personnel.

In Russia, dozens of criminal and hundreds of administrative cases have been initiated against those who disseminated information about what happened in Buche. Many defendants were sentenced to long prison terms.
