A court in Moscow sentenced a local pensioner, Tatyana Petrukhina, to one and a half years of probation for setting fire to a voting booth during the presidential election. This was reported by “Mediazona” from the courtroom.
According to the verdict, Petrukhina “under the pretext of voting” came to the polling station, poured flammable liquid on the ballots and set them on fire with a lighter. Thus, she obstructed the work of the commission, the court decided.
The investigation also claimed that before voting, the 70-year-old pensioner corresponded with unidentified persons and entered into a criminal conspiracy with them.
Petrukhina fully admitted her guilt and repented. “My client was processed in three days. She really thought she was working for the special services and saving the presidential election,” said the lawyer from Muscovite in the debate.
During the voting days for the presidential elections of Russia in March 2024, several arsons were recorded at polling stations, including in Moscow, the Moscow region and St. Petersburg. In addition, voters poured coloring substances into ballot boxes. Based on these facts, 33 criminal cases were initiated.
