A Muscovite woman was fined for “discrediting the army” because of the brooch

The Simonovsky District Court of Moscow fined local resident Maria Vyrovets for the article on the so-called discrediting of the Russian army. The reason for the administrative case was a homemade brooch in the shape of a violet flower with blue and yellow petals, which the Muscovite wore on her bag.
As “OVD-Info” reports, the denunciation of Vyrovets was written by a subway passenger who traveled with her in the same carriage. After that, the police detained her using the facial recognition system.
The court decision stated that the brooch “has the colors of the flag of Ukraine” and therefore is a “means of visual agitation” that arouses a negative attitude to the “special military operation” (that’s how the war is called in Russian official documents).
Maria Vyrovets pleaded not guilty and stated that she did not campaign. She said that the brooch in the form of a flower was made for her by her daughter as a gift, and she has been wearing it on her bag for a long time. However, the court sided with the police and fined Vyrovets 30,000 rubles.
- The article on discrediting the army was added by deputies to the Criminal Code in 2022. It is used by the authorities to prosecute citizens for any anti-war statements.
