The authorities of Zimbabwe are looking for investors for the implementation of a large-scale project for the construction of a futuristic cyber site 18 km from Harare, the current capital of this country. In the future, Cybersity may become the new capital of Zimbabwe, writes Bloomberg.

In the new city, on the site of the current village of Mount Hampden, it is planned to build the building of the national parliament, the presidential palace and the headquarters of the country’s central bank, as well as the building of the supreme court, the stock exchange, etc.
The project envisages skyscrapers, shopping centers and its own solar power plant. As Bloomberg writes, the last point is an important advantage, since 19-hour power outages occur every day in Zimbabwe.

According to the billionaire investor Shadja Ul Mulk, who lives in the United Arab Emirates, about three dozen villas have already been sold, and the construction of the futuristic city will cost a total of $60 billion. Mulk is confident that after the implementation of the Cybercity project, it will resemble Dubai. The billionaire himself is going to invest $500 million in construction. “It will be a world different from Harare, which in two decades has turned from a well-developed city into what it is today: the roads are riddled with potholes, garbage is rarely taken out, electricity is turned off more often than it is turned on, and there has been no reliable water supply in the suburbs for many years,” writes Bloomberg.
Photo: Zim Cybercity According to Stephen Chan, a professor of world politics at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, the plans of the Zimbabwean authorities reflect the reluctance of the ruling elite to concern itself with “kinds of mud and poverty.” Instead of trying to solve the problems, officials prefer to simply move the capital, Chan noted.
The Cybercity project was first announced by Mulk International in 2020 at the Dubai World Expo. President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa granted the company an exclusive license to create a special economic zone in the country.
