A picket was held in Krasnodar against the ban on helping homeless animals. Several dozen local residents gathered for the action. They spoke out against the regional governor’s decision prohibiting volunteers from feeding and treating homeless dogs and cats, reports Kavkaz.Realii.

Local authorities agreed on the action. Its participants were more than 100 residents of the region – not only Krasnodar residents, but also animal advocates from Sochi, Gorachey Klyuch and several towns. Those gathered held placards: “Why is it forbidden to feed dogs from September 1?”, “Dogs and cats are also our children, we have a moral duty to them”, “Why is it that volunteer activities are actually banned in Kuban from September 1.”

In accordance with the decree signed at the end of March by the Governor of the Krasnodar Territory, Veniamin Kondratiev, when dealing with stray animals, feeding them and any contact, as well as equipping places outside of official shelters, is prohibited. According to animal protectionists, in fact, this decree prohibits any volunteer assistance to homeless dogs and cats.

Also at the picket, the activists expressed dissatisfaction with the work of the “Svetoch” company, which is engaged in catching stray animals, accusing it of killing stray dogs and taking corpses out of the city.

As a result of the action, a resolution was adopted, which the organizers sent to the governor with a request not to limit the work of volunteers.
