Four members of the “Association of Veterans of Intelligence and Special Forces of the Tomsk Region”, who took part in the war against Ukraine, came to the patriotic talk with students of Tomsk Pedagogical University, which took place on February 22 and was organized by the university’s department of patriotic youth education. One of them turned out to be a local resident who had previously been repeatedly convicted of serious crimes.

During the meeting with the future teachers, Igor Batragareev, Ruslan Ustyantsev, Igor Lezyn and Dmitry Denisyuk talked about the fact that the love of family was instilled in them from childhood, and their patriotic upbringing was influenced by their family, teachers and environment. They also said that during the “special military operation” (this is how the Russian authorities call the war in Ukraine. – RS) their knowledge of mathematics, geography, physics and chemistry came in handy.

“TV-2” drew attention to the fact that the full namesake of one of the speakers – Dmytro Vladimirovich Denisyuk – was sentenced to five and a half years of imprisonment in a high-security prison at the end of 2022 for causing serious harm to the health of an acquaintance with the help of a kitchen knife. As follows from the sentence of the Soviet District Court of Tomsk, Denysyuk was previously tried several times: in 2010 – for robbery by a group of persons (for which he received four years five months probation), and in 2020 – for drunken driving (11 months of conditional imprisonment, followed by a review of the case and a sentence of one year in a strict regime prison).

In court, Denysyuk stated that he stabbed his friend in self-defense. However, the court did not agree with his arguments.

  • Shortly after the start of the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine, Russian schools began to send men who had returned from the war en masse. They conduct “Courage Lessons”, tell schoolchildren about “Ukrainian fascists”, show videos from the front and dress children in military equipment. The Russian authorities plan to actively use military personnel for patriotic education and have even launched a special project called “Your Hero”, where demobilized men are taught to work with children.
