A resident of Kemerovo was sent to war, despite the delay in development

Semyon Karmanov, a 25-year-old resident of Kemerovo, who was serving time in a colony, was recruited for the war in Ukraine, despite the delay in development. He signed the contract six months before his release, unable to read and write. Mediazona tells the story.

At the end of 2022, Karmanov was sentenced by the court to two years and a month in a strict regime prison for theft. Taking into account the time spent in the pre-trial detention center, he was supposed to be released in April 2024. But in October he was sent to the army.

Karmanov’s mother says that he refused to sign up as a volunteer, but still signed the contract, not knowing what kind of document it was. The family believes that pressure could be exerted on him. He was not registered at the military enlistment office because of his disability, the medical commission in the colony assigned him the highest category of fitness for military service.

Karmanov immediately received a military ticket. He did not manage to read it, but asked a colleague about it. The document states that his military accounting specialty is a driver, although he never had a driver’s license. In mid-November, he told his relatives that he would soon be sent to the front.
