A resident of Khabarovsk was convicted in the case of military “fakes”

The court in Khabarovsk ordered local resident Andrey Shevchuk six months of correctional work for the article about “fakes” about the Russian army. This is reported by “OVD-Info”.

On January 31, 2023, the same court dismissed Shevchuk’s “military fakes” case and fined him 30,000 rubles. But in November, the regional court overturned the district court’s decision – the case was sent for a new hearing.

Posts in the Telegram channel became the basis of the case – what exactly, the court does not say. However, the authorities reported that immediately after the case was initiated, Shevchuk denied the information that he had “spread false information”, and then published on the channel “a number of patriotic posts dedicated to the exploits of servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation during the participation in a special military operation.”

• At the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Russian authorities introduced administrative and criminal liability for “discrediting” and “fakes” about the Russian Armed Forces. According to these articles, citizens who publish data on war crimes of the Russian army, as well as express disagreement with the position of the Russian authorities on the Ukrainian conflict, are prosecuted.
• By October 2023, the number of convictions under the article about “fakes” about the Russian army in 2023 increased by a third, and the number of cases of treason – almost four times compared to the same period in 2022. In 2023, the courts for the first time began to set real deadlines for the case of “discrediting” the Russian army.
