A resident of St. Petersburg was sentenced to 8 years in prison in the case of sabotage

The court in St. Petersburg sentenced 19-year-old local resident Vyacheslav Zaitsev to eight years in a strict regime colony. He was found guilty in the case of sabotage on the railway. This was reported in the joint press service of the city’s courts.
The case file states that in mid-March 2023, Zaitsev set fire to a relay box near the Gorelovo station. He allegedly did it at the request of a certain “curator” for 10 thousand rubles. As proof of the work done, Zaitsev filmed the fire on video. The damage from the arson amounted to a little more than 1,500 rubles.
It is reported that Zaitsev admitted his guilt. He compensated the damage at the stage of preliminary investigation. The prosecution requested that he be released from prison for nine years.
During the war, Zaitsev explained that he was not against the war with Ukraine, but that he damaged the relay cabinet in order to earn money. His lawyers noted that Zaitsev wrote an application to the military enlistment office so that he could be sent to war.
According to the court’s decision, Zaitsev will spend the first two years in prison, the remaining six – in a high-security colony.
