A court in the Ivanovo Region sentenced 31-year-old resident of the city of Shuya, Dmytro Lyamin, to eight years in prison on the charge of attempting to set fire to the military enlistment office with the help of a “Molotov cocktail.” He was found guilty of committing a terrorist attack. This is reported by the IvanovoNEWS telegram channel with reference to the press service of the local FSB office.

Lyamin was also prescribed compulsory psychiatric treatment. According to the investigation, on March 19, 2022, a resident of the city of Shuya threw a “Molotov cocktail” into the building of the local military enlistment office in order to “destabilize the activities of the authorities.” Then the local mass media reported that as a result of the arson request, the window of the building was burnt.

Initially, Lyamin was accused of attempted arson, but then the case was reclassified to an article about a terrorist attack.

  • Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian army in Ukraine and the mobilization associated with it, attacks on the buildings of military enlistment offices and administrations have become more frequent in different cities of Russia. At least forty similar cases are known, criminal cases were initiated in several regions. The General Staff of Russia announced that cases of arson of military enlistment centers would be considered acts of terrorism and would be punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
