A Russian soldier in Crimea was sentenced to 9 years on the charge of desertion

The Russian Garrison Court in the annexed Crimea sentenced a contract serviceman who voluntarily left a unit in Sevastopol to nine years in a strict regime colony on charges of desertion. This is reported on the court’s website.

The soldier, identified in the sentence as N., explained his actions by his reluctance to participate in the war in Ukraine. He was found guilty under the article “Desertion committed during the period of mobilization or martial law, in wartime or in the conditions of an armed conflict or hostilities.” As “Mediazona” noted, in the court database there is only one card with such an article for 2023, it says that the name of the accused is Denis Narolsky.

It is confirmed that in September of last year, he did military service under a contract in Sevastopol. He voluntarily left the military unit and moved to one of the populated areas of Crimea. In January 2023, the soldier was detained.

During the hearing, the defendant pleaded guilty. He motivated his actions by the fact that he did not want to participate in the war against Ukraine, Krym.Realii reports.

Earlier, “Mediazona” reported that 536 cases against military personnel were brought to the Russian courts – they were brought under the articles that were tightened simultaneously with the announcement of mobilization in September of last year. By the end of March 2023, Russian garrison military courts had already issued 247 verdicts in cases of involuntary desertion, disobedience of orders, and desertion during the mobilization period.

• Also on Thursday, the Russian Supreme Court of Crimea sentenced a resident of the village of Pionerskoye to ten years in prison in connection with the attempt to set fire to the military enlistment office and to explode on the railway. • According to OVD-Info, the verdict was handed down under the article on sabotage and illegal trafficking of explosives. The convicted must spend the first three years in prison, the rest – in a colony of strict regime.
• According to the investigation, in May 2022 he set fire to the building of the military enlistment office in Simferopol, and also allegedly planned to blow up railway tracks.
