Authorities have declared a tsunami threat for the entire western coast of Japan. A warning about a strong tsunami means that there is a possibility of waves with a height of more than 3 meters, according to Reuters. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida called on people living in regions threatened by a tsunami to “evacuate immediately.”
A tsunami threat was also announced in Russia’s Vladivostok, Khabarovsk Territory and Sakhalin Island.
As The Guardian writes, the first victims began to arrive in Japanese hospitals – the number of wounded is not specified. The hospital in Ishikawa operates on generators, since there is no electricity in the area.
There is destruction in Ishikawa and Niigata prefectures. More than 36 thousand houses remained without electricity. The Japanese authorities also stated that no reactor problems were detected at any of the nuclear power plants in the affected region. However, there are oil spills and other minor damages at nuclear facilities.
