A transgender student is forced to withdraw from the Pedagogical Institute of Penza State University due to a change in documents. This follows from audio recordings of conversations with university employees, which are available at DOXA.
University employees told the student that he could not continue his studies because of the change of name and gender marker, as this creates “problems” for the institution, because “the state does not support” transgender transitions. They accused the student of damaging the university’s reputation and expressed fear that the story would reach journalists.
“Now all the mud will be poured on the faculty. […] And no one will understand whether you have a natural desire, an unnatural one, or whether you have the onset of schizophrenia. No one will understand,” quotes the representative of the DOXA university.
As a result, the student was refused to accept new documents, advised him to withdraw from the budget place and re-enter the paid one, so that the faculty “would not have problems”.
- In June, the State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill on the prohibition of “sex change” in Russia. According to the bill, surgical operations in the framework of transgender transition will be allowed only for “treatment of congenital physiological anomalies of sex formation in children.”
- If the law is passed, transpersons in Russia will not be able to officially make the necessary transgender transition. Human rights activists believe that the ban will lead to an increase in the number of mental disorders and suicides, as well as to the emergence of a market for underground medical services.
- In Russia, the dissemination of positive information about homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism is already prohibited. Fines of up to 400,000 rubles for citizens and up to five million rubles for organizations are provided for this.
