The coordinator of the “Left Front” Sergei Udaltsov was detained by the Investigative Committee in Moscow. This is reported by TASS with reference to activist’s lawyer Violetta Volkova.

In a conversation with the agency, the lawyer said that Udaltsov became a suspect in the criminal case on the justification of terrorism. According to Volkova, probably on Friday, January 12, the Basmanny court will decide on a preventive measure against her.

If Udaltsov is found guilty, he may face up to seven years in prison, the agency notes.

Earlier on Thursday, Russian state agencies with reference to law enforcement agencies announced the initiation of a criminal case against Sergey Udaltsov. He himself wrote early in the morning that they came to him with a search. Subsequently, it became known about the questioning of the activist by the Investigative Committee. According to the lawyer, electronic devices were seized from Udaltsov during the search.

The case is presumably related to some posts in Udaltsov’s Telegram channel. It is claimed that it was initiated back in December.

Udaltsov – the leader of the “Levy Front” organization, was one of the notable figures of the protests of 2011-2012, spent more than 4 years in the colony due to the so-called Bolotnoi case. After his release, he was assigned administrative supervision. Udaltsov did not admit guilt.

Udaltsov opposes Vladimir Putin, but supports the invasion of Ukraine. He repeatedly spoke out in support of the now-arrested Igor Strelkov (Gyrkin), including advocating that the “left and patriotic forces” consider the possibility of nominating him for the post of president. In recent days, Udaltsov wrote mainly about housing and communal services problems in the Moscow region and criticized the Kremlin in connection with them.

Udaltsov cooperates with the CPRF, but does not agree with the party leadership in everything. His wife, Anastasia, received the mandate of a deputy of the State Duma.
