The restored interconnector with Poland has been operating since April 27, 2023 and successfully operated for 3 days in test mode.
Ukrenergo noted that this interstate power transmission line means additional reliability of the Ukrainian power system as part of the European network.
“Ukraine’s move to the European Union is not only ambition, but also concrete results. We continue successful sectoral integration in the EU. An additional powerful interconnector increases our export-import capabilities.
Due to the sale of electricity, we will accumulate resources for the restoration of energy before the new heating season. And if necessary, we will activate imports and receive emergency assistance to our neighbors. Ukrainians will be with the world, despite the enemy’s missile and drone attacks,” said Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
According to the head of the board of Ukrenergo Vladimir Kudrytskyi. This line will strengthen the connection between the Ukrainian and European energy systems.
“If the needs are different, we will be able to import electricity from Europe. This line constitutes an additional element of European energy security and contributes to the development of a stable network in Ukraine,” said Kudrytskyi.
The length of the line
The total length of the line is almost 400 km, more than 70% of them pass through the territory of Ukraine. The line is connected to the main network through an open switchgear at one of the Ukrainian power facilities.
“The main volume of work was carried out in this node so that the electricity produced by the Ukrainian power system could be converted into the European voltage of 400 kV and transferred to Europe. 125 specialists (45 Ukrenergo employees and 80 contractors) worked on the construction of the facility from the side of Ukraine for five months during the war,” Ukrenergo said.
Project cost
The total cost of the project was UAH 350 million. In addition, a number of necessary equipment was provided free of charge by Polish partners.
