Permanent representatives of the member states of the European Union postponed the vote on extending the duty-free import of goods from Ukraine for another year to Friday.

The “Interfax-Ukraine” agency learned about this from a European diplomat who holds a high position, “European Truth” reports.

On Wednesday in Brussels, at a meeting of EU permanent representatives, they discussed whether duty-free import of Ukrainian goods should be extended until June 2024.

“The discussion took place with the subsequent adoption of a decision to hold a vote at the meeting on Friday,” a European diplomat told the agency.

As you know, in recent weeks, the ban on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products by five EU countries, in particular, Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia, has become a problematic issue.

In this regard, on April 19, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, proposed to introduce a temporary ban – until June 5 – on the import of Ukrainian corn, wheat, rapeseed, sunflower and sunflower oil to these five countries.

On Wednesday, the third round of negotiations of the European Commission with the ministers of agriculture of five countries ended in failure. The European Commission began to be annoyed by the fact that countries are increasingly expanding the list of Ukrainian products, the import of which they want to ban.

Last year in May, the Council of the EU decided to cancel for a year all tariffs and quotas on exports from Ukraine in connection with the full-scale invasion of Russia to support the Ukrainian economy.

The European Commission approved the official offer to extend the autonomous trade measures for Ukraine for another year in February this year.
