Deputy of the Moscow City Duma Yevgeny Stupin appealed to the Investigative Committee of Russia with a request to bring to criminal responsibility the editor-in-chief of the state TV channel Russia Today Margarita Simonyan – for her proposal to detonate a nuclear bomb over Siberia.
According to the applicant, Simonyan’s words contain public appeals to start an aggressive war and use weapons of mass destruction.
Stupin’s assistant Nikolay Korolev also wrote a statement to the SC. In addition, Maria Prusakova, a member of the State Duma from the Altai Territory, demanded a public apology for her remarks from Simonyan, saying that the Siberians took her words “as a deep insult.”
Novosibirsk Mayor Anatoly Lokot, a physicist by education, commented on Simonyan’s proposal to detonate a bomb. According to him, a nuclear explosion over the territory of Siberia will result in consequences that local residents will feel for hundreds of years. In response to such a reaction, Simonyan herself filed an application with the SC against the deputy of the Moscow City Duma, Stupin, for defamation against her. “Of course, I did not and could not propose any such heresy,” Simonyan explained, adding that the accusations against her “slander her reputation and cause her damage and suffering.” “The rest of the slanderers get ready,” RT’s chief editor also threatened.
- The day before, Margarita Simonyan in the author’s program “Ch.T.D.” came up with the idea of making a nuclear explosion on Russian territory – as she put it, “somewhere over Siberia”. Thus, according to Simonyan, the “collective West”, which is allegedly at war with Russia, will be punished – since the explosion will disable satellites and all electronics. At the same time, the population of the Earth, according to the editor-in-chief of RT, will not suffer physically. “This option is still the most humane. I don’t see any outcome other than approximately this one, whether I like it or not,” Simonyan summarized.
