An explosion occurred on a gas pipeline in the Yaroslavl region

An explosion occurred on a gas pipeline in the Yaroslavl region on Monday. There was a big fire. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the cause of the explosion is depressurization of the pipe connections. The fire was extinguished, no one was injured.

The explosion and fire occurred near the village of Eremeytsevo in the Myshkin District on the reserve branch of the Ukhta – Torzhok 3 gas pipeline at the point where it crosses the Volga River. The rescuers specified that the pipes diverged at the place where the above-water part of the gas pipeline connects with the underwater part. Suspects of sabotage or terrorist attack were not declared.

As “Meduza” reports, last weekend there was also a rupture of pipe connections on the section of the gas pipeline “Ukhta – Torzhok 1” nearby, in the Vologda region.

In recent months, there have been numerous reports of accidents and fires on gas pipelines in Russia and on gas pipelines going from Russia to other countries. In November, an explosion occurred on a gas pipeline in the Vsevolozh district of the Leningrad region. The local CHP was forced to temporarily switch to fuel oil.

In December, an explosion occurred on the main gas pipeline Urengoi-Pomary-Uzhhorod in Chuvashia. Three people died, one was injured.

On January 7, an explosion occurred on a gas pipeline in the Luhansk region of Ukraine. Nearby settlements with a population of 13 thousand people were temporarily without gas.

On January 13, an explosion occurred in Lithuania on a gas pipeline connecting Lithuania and Latvia. The nearest village was evacuated.

In all cases, except for one, the local authorities declared that there were no signs of sabotage. Only in the case of the explosion of the gas pipeline near Luhansk did the authorities of the self-proclaimed “LPR” declare the possibility of a targeted detonation and opened a criminal case.

On December 21, the State Duma of Russia adopted laws providing for punishment up to life imprisonment for facilitating subversive activities. As indicated in the State Duma, the documents were developed against the backdrop of a series of man-made disasters in Russia that occurred after the invasion of Ukraine.
