In the spring of this year, the entrepreneur decided to participate in the state grant program Vlasna Sprava, which is implemented by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine. As part of this program, Ukrainian entrepreneurs have the opportunity to receive up to 250,000 hryvnias for the purchase of equipment, the purchase of raw materials or the rental of premises.
Information about the grant program was sent to Svitlana Kharchenko by her daughter.
“We knew what equipment we needed in production even before the grant, so since such an opportunity arose, literally in a week I decided to study the conditions of the program more carefully and take part in it,” says the entrepreneur.
After defending the business plan and a positive decision from the employment center, Svitlana Kharchenko received funds for the purchase of equipment. The whole procedure took about a month.
“We bought a line for the production of baseball caps (caps). These are 4 machines that smooth, steam, shape the visor and dry the finished product,” the entrepreneur explains.
They decided to purchase such highly specialized equipment because baseball caps are the most popular product in the sewing shop’s assortment.
In addition, they bought some more sewing equipment with their own savings. In this way, it was possible to modernize a significant part of production.
Two more people were hired in the sewing shop. Svitlana Kharchenko adds that after the installation of the new line, the process of making baseball caps has become much faster and now takes minutes.
Previously, most operations had to be performed manually. In addition to the increase in speed, the quality of finished products has also increased.
According to the terms of the grant program, if the amount received by the entrepreneur is covered by the taxes paid for three years, then there is no need to return the funds to the state. The entrepreneur says that everything will pay off much faster.
“I think that the amount of the grant will be covered by taxes paid earlier than in three years. In addition to the two people we hired under the terms of the program, I also have employees and the taxes paid for them are also taken into account,” says the entrepreneur.
Svitlana Kharchenko adds that, like any entrepreneur, she is constantly trying to modernize production, improve the quality of finished products, and increase volumes. The war affected not only demand, but also the ability of Ukrainian businesses to invest in production, as incomes decreased. And the state stepped up in time, creating opportunities for development even in such a difficult time.
