As noted in the bank, the portrait of the new King Charles III will not be placed on the currency either. The changes will come into force in a few years.
The new 5 Australian dollar banknotes will feature a design dedicated to the culture and history of the first Australians. The other side of the banknote will still feature the Australian Parliament.
The portrait of Elizabeth II was approved for the polymer banknote of 5 Australian dollars in 1992.
