The Indonesian resort island of Bali may introduce quotas for foreign tourists due to the predominance of Russian tourists, who most often violate the rules of stay. This was stated by the governor of the island of Bale, Wayan Koster, during the announcement of the program “100 years of development in Bale”, reports the local publication Detik.

The governor of Bala said that the authorities of the island intend to fight with tourists who violate the rules of stay.
“We will no longer pursue a policy of mass tourism, we will limit (the flow of tourists, — ed.), we have introduced a quota system for the next 100 years,” Koster explained.
If this system is introduced, foreigners will have to register in advance and wait for their turn to enter.
Koster noted that tourists wishing to come to Bali next year should register “right now”.
According to him, the reason for the introduction of quotas is the behavior of tourists.
“Now a new phenomenon has arisen, when a number of tourists are hooligans, rioters, most of them from Russia,” explained Koster.
He clarified that since the beginning of 2023, 101 tourists were deported from Indonesia, most of them – 27 people – Russians. In total, according to him, there are about 50 thousand Russians in Bala.
Let’s remind
The Ministry of Finance wrote that in March, Koster called on the Indonesian government to cancel the simplified procedure for obtaining visas on arrival for Russians and Ukrainians, since they work illegally and entered with tourist visas. At the same time, the immigration authorities have repeatedly warned foreigners in Bali against working on tourist visas.
