Biden extended sanctions against the Russian Federation for another year due to the annexation of Crimea and the war in Donbas

US President Joe Biden, by his decree on March 4, extended for one year the state of emergency introduced back in 2014 after the Russian aggression against Ukraine, and related sanctions restrictions against the Russian Federation.

As “European Truth” writes, this is evidenced by a decree on the White House website.

The state of emergency in connection with the situation in Ukraine was introduced on March 6, 2014 by the decree of the then US President Barack Obama. Since then, its effect has been extended several times – in particular, on February 21, 2022, after Russia recognized the legal personality of the terrorist organizations “L/DNR”.

In addition, in December 2014 and September 2018, the US presidents introduced additional sanctions.

“The actions and policies referred to in these executive orders continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States… Therefore, I am extending the state of emergency for one year,” Biden’s executive order reads.

We will remind, on February 23, the US president announced that the United States introduce more than 500 sanctions against the Russian Federation and new export restrictions against nearly 100 entities on the eve of the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the death of Alexei Navalny.

In particular, 26 companies and individuals from 11 countries were sanctioned – in particular China and Serbiawhich help Russia to circumvent sanctions by importing critical technologies and equipment for the military-industrial sphere.
