Director Vsevolod Lysovsky was arrested in Moscow for 15 days

Courts in Moscow ordered director Vsevolod Lysovsky and actor Ivan Anisimov to be arrested for 15 days each. Both were detained on Friday afternoon in different areas of the city. The courts cited “disobedience to police officers” as the reason for the arrest.

The director’s daughter, Eva Lysovskaya, announced the arrest of Lysovsky on Facebook in the afternoon. She wrote that her father was taken from the street to the police station without explanation and was not allowed to use the phone. Later, Lysovsky got in touch and said that he was being taken to court.

Soon it became known about the detention of Anisymov. According to OVD-Info, law enforcement officers initially said that the actor was cursing with a mat, however, the OVD made a report on him for disobeying a police officer.

On his Facebook page, Lysovsky wrote that the police “lied a lot” at the court, and called the accusations against him “sucked out of the finger.”

  • In September 2022, Lysovsky, the actors and the audience (a total of 14 people) were detained during the street performance of the operetta “Justice” based on Bertold Brecht’s play “Fear and Despair in the Third Empire” in an underground passage on Mira Avenue in Moscow. The theme of Brecht’s play is the establishment of fascism in Germany.
  • Also last year, Lysovsky was fined 50,000 rubles for an anti-war post on Facebook based on an article about the discrediting of the Russian army.
  • Vsevolod Lysovsky is a director and screenwriter of an experimental theater who worked for many years in Moscow’s Teatre.doc. Created a new platform for him “Transformator.doc”. Twice laureate of the “Golden Mask” award.
