DK in Pskov region canceled discos because of Serdyuchka’s song

The administration of the cultural center of the city of Porkhov in the Pskov region canceled the discos after the DJ played Verka Serdyuchka’s song “Hulyanochka” at the New Year’s party, which contains words from the Ukrainian national anthem “Ukraine is not dead yet.”
The video from the party was published in the public “Overheard in Porkhov” social network “VKontakte” and caused a public outcry, in connection with which the director of the cultural center Anna Tarasenkova had to apologize. According to her, “a conversation was held with the DJ and he will be punished.” Tarasenkova also noted that the DK team was “one of the first to join the organization of assistance to our servicemen during the first mobilization.”
This is not the first incident in Russia and in the territories of Ukraine annexed by it, connected with the public playing and listening to the songs of Ukrainian performers, in particular Verka Serdyuchka. So, in May, the Krasnodar police organized an inspection of the karaoke club “La Major” due to the performance of the same song “Gulyanochka”, in August a court in Crimea fined three animators under an administrative article on the discrediting of the Russian army for the fact that they publicly danced under this song, and in December, the police came to the Galamart store in St. Petersburg – also after the mourning for Serdyuchka that was playing there.
The Crimean animators and the director of the St. Petersburg store were forced to publicly apologize. At the same time, neither the anthem of Ukraine nor the song “Gulyanochka” is officially banned in Russia.
- Verka Serdyuchka is the stage name of the Ukrainian artist Andrey Danylko, who sings mainly in Russian and is therefore popular with the Russian audience. In Russia, Danylko gave up to a hundred concerts an hour, but even before the start of the full-scale war, the artist publicly criticized Vladimir Putin’s policy towards Ukraine and stopped coming to Russian territory with tours.
