Due to pesticides, Slovakia prohibits the processing and sale of Ukrainian grain

The Ministry of Agriculture of Slovakia ordered on Thursday to ban the processing of grain imported from Ukraine, as well as the sale of Ukrainian grain products on the domestic market.

This is stated in the message of the department, which is quoted by “European Truth”.

The decision on restrictions in Slovakia was made after a consignment of wheat from Ukraine weighing 1,500 tons, which was sent for threshing, “the presence of the pesticide was confirmedwhich is not allowed in the EU and has a negative impact on human health.”

“The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, together with subordinate organizations, will ensure the selection of samples of all grain and flour from Ukraine, which is already stored in Slovakia,” the ministry notes.

Slovakia will inform all EU member states and the Ukrainian ambassador Myroslav Kastran about the results of the analysis of the batch of Ukrainian grain. The agriculture ministers of the Visegrad Four countries, as well as Romania and Bulgaria, will discuss this issue separately at a meeting on Friday.

“The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Slovakia does not recommend importing any Ukrainian grain and grain products,” the statement concludes, without specifying the period for which the restriction is imposed.

Ukraine, one of the world’s largest grain exporters, was unable to export grain at all through the Black Sea for a long time after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion, forcing it to look for alternative export routes.

A large amount of Ukrainian grain, cheaper than that grown in the EU, ended up in the countries of Central Europe. This had a negative impact on local farmers. Last week, Poland announced that will temporarily stop the import of Ukrainian grainto mitigate the impact on prices, but transit will allow.

“EvroPravda” told in an article about how the export of Ukrainian grain caused tension in the relations between Ukraine and Poland “Dangerous grain”. Also read: Lessons from the grain crisis: how Ukraine should respond to the protests of farmers from the EU.
