E-prescription will be extended to all prescription drugs — Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine will expand the electronic prescription to all prescription drugs already in the spring. This is stated in the message of the government portal.

“In order to simplify the process of prescribing drugs, make it more effective and modern, in the spring of 2023, the Ministry of Health will implement an electronic prescription for all prescription drugs. It will also allow to strengthen control over the dispensing of prescription drugs in pharmacies,” says the message.

The expansion of e-prescription will be gradual, for example, in the absence of light or communication in a medical institution, a doctor can still write a prescription on a paper form.

It was noted there that the electronic prescription applies to medicinal products registered in Ukraine, which are subject to a doctor’s prescription and the patient buys them at his own expense.

This list includes antibiotics, anticonvulsants, hormonal drugs (including contraceptives), drugs for the treatment of blood pressure, heart diseases, and others. It was noted that some pain relievers, sedatives, and cough medicines can also be considered prescription drugs.

Where and how to get an e-prescription

The electronic document can be obtained regardless of the presence of a declaration from the family doctor. At the same time, the patient must be registered in the electronic health system.

Doctors of all specialties of state, municipal, or private clinics or doctors of public health clinics can write out an e-prescription. And for this, an agreement with the NSZU is not necessary.

In order to get a prescription for a prescription drug, you need to make an appointment with a doctor.
