Eurointegration under question: Ukraine is obliged to establish maximum prices for electricity

Ukraine is obliged to comply with European standards and set price restrictions on the wholesale electricity market. On March 16, 2022, the energy system of Ukraine joined ENTSOE, which became the largest investment project in the country’s history, “Vechernye Vesty” reports.

In order to fully realize the potential of this project, it is necessary to conduct market coupling and agree on the limit prices in accordance with the obligations of Ukraine determined by the Regulation.

“Without this, it is impossible to fully reveal the potential of European integration,” emphasized the participant of the open discussion of the draft resolution of the NCRECU.

Omelchenko also reminded that Ukraine’s obligation is to bring the marginal prices on the wholesale electricity market to the European level. He emphasized that there is no alternative to fulfilling the obligations to the Energy Community under the agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

The expert noted that industrial enterprises should not worry about the rise in electricity prices after the abolition of price caps. According to his forecasts, prices will not rise, as they are determined by demand, which is currently low in Ukraine. The reason is the military situation.

It is important to note that the head of “Ukrenergo” Vladimir Kudrytsky expressed his opinion about the need to liberalize pricing on the electricity market in order to ensure free imports from Europe and balancing of the energy system in Ukraine.
