In Iran, in the city of Kerman, explosions took place on Wednesday at the city cemetery, near the memorial to the deceased general of the Guards Corps of the Islamic Revolution Kasem Suleimani. Iranian state media, citing representatives of the emergency services, reported at least 20 dead and many injured.

The Noornews agency specified that there were at least two explosions, they occurred on the road leading to the memorial. Presumably, gasoline canisters exploded. On this day, a memorial ceremony dedicated to the fourth anniversary of Suleimana’s death was held at the cemetery. Several hundred people took part in it.

The local authorities said that they are considering both the version of the terrorist attack and the domestic causes of the incident.

  • General Kasem Suleimani was the commander of the Al-Quds special unit of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. “Al-Quds” is engaged in special operations outside Iran. In particular, the unit provided support to the Hamas and Hezbollah groups in Lebanon and the Palestinian territories. Suleimani was killed on January 3, 2020 by a targeted strike by the USAF.
