On October 15, the railway connection between Ukraine and Poland will be supplemented by another direction – Warsaw-Lviv.

About this told director of the Polish railway operator SKPL Tomasz Strapagel in an interview with the Center for Transport Strategies.

It is about the Warsaw-Lviv route with a transfer in Rava-Ruska, about the launch of which Ukrainian railwaymen have been talking about for almost 10 years. Transportation between Warsaw and Rawa-Ruska will be performed by the Polish railway operator SKPL.

“This is the shortest route from Warsaw to Lviv. Ukrainian partners assured us that this connection has great prospects, even in the case of the resumption of flights to Lviv airport. The Ukrainian side presented us with an analytical study, which states that there are many flights between Lviv and Warsaw buses, which means there is a demand for transportation between these cities,” said Tomasz Strapagiel.

Also, SKPL is counting on the plans of “Ukrzaliznytsia” to complete the Eurotrack from Rava-Ruska to Lviv.

“In my opinion, if the Eurotrack is built to Lviv, then this train will be a great success. And if Ukraine joins the European Union, it will become an additional incentive for the development of this railway connection,” explained Tomasz Strapagiel.

“Ukrzaliznytsia” will be responsible for selling tickets on this route.

“We are working on behalf of a Ukrainian company and will carry out transportation between Warsaw and Rava-Ruska for its benefit. Ukrzaliznytsia is solely responsible for the sale of tickets on this route,” said Strapagiel.

Currently, the travel time between Warsaw and Rava-Ruska (then there will be a transfer to a train to Lviv, – ed.) is more than 7 hours. This time also includes customs and passport control.

At the same time, as explained by SKPL, active track repairs are ongoing in Poland throughout the country.

“This means that in some areas the speed of traffic may soon increase,” Tomasz Strapagiel said.
